Breaking: Jesus Ramos-Maldonado will be Arraigned May 6th on Lewd Acts and Sexual Battery of a Child Charges
The Mountain Top Times is breaking that the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office after an almost nine month delay will arraign Jesus Ramos-Maldonado, the 52-year old proprietor of La Cocina de Chuy at 2030 Eureka Street in Redding, on sex crime charges involving a 15 year-old employee on May 6, 2023.
The Shasta County District Attorney’s office told Mountain Top Times investigative journalist Leslie Sawyer late Wednesday afternoon that Mr. Jesus Ramos-Maldonado has been assigned Case Number 24f2659 and will be arraigned at Shasta County Superior Courthouse on May 6th at 8:30 am in Department 21.
The Redding Police filed a “Sex Crime” #RPD@#-032396-1 report on August 10, 2023, that details a pattern of lewd acts and sexual battery against a 15-year old child involving Jesus Ramos-Maldonado, who operates La Cocina de Chuy at 2030 Eureka Way.
Redding Police Department investigator Lauren Meyer interviewed the victim, then called Ramos-Maldonado who admitted to employing the female victim, corroborated a number of allegations regarding the victim working at his place of business, and apologized.
The Redding Police Department arrested Mr. Jesus Ramos Maldonado for Sex Crimes:
288 (c) PC:F – Lewd and Lascivious Act W/Child Age 14/15: Defendant at least 10 Years Older 11D,
243(d) PC: M – Sexual Battery For the Purpose of Sexual Arousal 11D
Mr. Ramos-Maldonado was immediately transferred to the Shasta County Jail, confined for approximately three days, and then released on bond.
The family of the victim contacted the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and expected some immediate action, because the business is within three hundred yards of five K-12 schools that were scheduled to open for the 2023-2024 term in late August.
After eight months of frustration, the victim’s family contacted Chairman Kevin Crye as their District 1 Supervisor. Based on the victim’s documentation substantiating the allegations, Chair Crye made several referrals to Shasta County resources.
Chairman Crye emphasized that he absolutely prioritizes Shasta County child safety issues, especially matters regarding molestation and sexual assault, and directed staff to invite a representative of the Shasta County District Attorney’s office to make a presentation at the May 7, 2023 Board of Supervisors meeting.
