California by having 7 of the Top 10 Most Expensive US Zip Codes just won Property Shark’s 2024 top luxury award for the Most Expensive Zip Codes based on median sales prices based on closed home sales.

After the 100 most expensive zip codes in the U.S. suffered widespread price contractions in 2023, PropertyShark found that 67% of the country’s most exclusive zip codes saw prices rise and multiple locations set new pricing records.

California’s 5-mile wide coastal strip from San Francisco down to San Diego convincingly dominated the luxury rankings with 66 of America’s most affluent zip codes, including  Silicon Valley’s Atherton that ranked number one with an average home sale closing price of $7.9 million.

If Mr. “Rich and Famous” Robin Leach was still singing “champagne wishes and caviar dreams,” he definitely would livein Newport Beach that just became the first city to ever to rank a record three zip codes of 92661, 92657 and 92662 in the top 10.  A new listing features 11,000 square feet “expansive oceanfront parcel on nearly three-quarters of an acre” with seaside gardens, and graced with a private oceanfront pool for $49.5 million.

New York State ranks a distant second with 17 of the most-wealthy zip codes, including the two villages of Saponark and Water Mill in the trust-fund-baby Hamptons that captured the number 2 and 3 spots. The zip code along a Miami Beach strand of get-away mansions for ex-South American dictators, P. Diddy, and the rumored soon to be new digs for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky came in fourth place.
