The Mountain Top Times has discovered from IRS Form 990 filings that CEO Kimberly Johnson in addition to being paid $191,270 in 2022 as of Children’s Legacy Center, Kimberly Johnson is being paid $51,000 as Interim CEO of One Safe Place Shasta.
CEO Kimberly Johnson publicly announced last year that One SAFE Place and the Children’s Legacy Center were working together collaboratively and promised to “continue to serve our community with essential crisis and trauma informed services” as the two charities progressed to a merger in 2024.
Kimberly Johnson at the October 12, 2024 Dancing with the Stars fundraiser stated:
“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our team, volunteers, sponsors, and dancers, we raised $84,541 to help support healing and recovery in our community. The funds significantly supported local domestic violence survivors, making each twirl, dip, and spin on the dance floor a step toward a safer and brighter future. Future events will be hosted under our newly merged and rebranded nonprofit.”
But CEO Kimberly Johnson after being questioned by the Mountain Top Times, is now admitting that Children’s Legacy Center is losing its liability insurance coverage. That means Children’s Legacy Center without proof of insurance will be unable to bill for services or receive grants from the County of Shasta, State of California, Sheriff, MediCal, Medicare andother government entities that amount to over 80% of revenue.
Mountain Top Times has also confirmed that Arch Cooperative is not a merger, but only an entity that holds a management services agreement with One Safe Place.
‘Children’s Legacy Center Part 5: Big Money, Small Local Services,’ revealed according to IRS Form 990 filings, that CEO Kimberly Johnson’s executive compensation grew from $19,200as a 2018 start-up, to $191,270 in 2022.
Our sources indicate Kimberly Johnson received substantially more compensation in 2023 and 2024, but even if Kimberly Johnson received no CEO pay increases, she will have earned $937,296 from Children’s Legacy Center through 2024.
Mountain Top Times has now learned from 2023 IRS Form 990 for One Safe Place Shasta, Kimberly Johnson has also been earning another $51,000 a year since 2023 as Interim CEO of One Safe Place Shasta. Kimberly Johnson by double dipping as CEO of both charities, now appears to have earned a minimum of $1,039,296 since 2018.
Mountain Top Times believes that board members the Honorable District Attorney Stephanie A. Bridgett and SheriffMichael L. Johnson are not officers of the Children’s Legacy Center and were not fully informed of all financial and operational issues.
Mountain Top Times did give Children’s Legacy Center board members and officers CEO Kimberly Johnson and Treasurer Erin Risner the opportunity to comment, and they have not responded. We will update this article with any response from CEO Kimberly Johnson and Treasurer Erin Resner.
Thanks for your sleuthing, and so a good newspaper!
It really is interesting what the 990s provide. And to lose liability insurance is quite a knotty problem. I'll bet some .gov entities even have administrators who would overlook such a serious problem. Some of them might even read your articles. Keep up the good work!
